De wereldpolitiek wordt er steeds meer een van machtspolitiek. Dat kon niet duidelijker onderstreept worden dan met het afgooien van de GBU-43 Massive Ordnance Air Blast. Het directe militaire doel er van was beperkt. Inmiddels denkt men dat zo'n 90+ IS strijders zijn omgekomen bij de aanval. De groep was al onder controle. Afghanistan kampt eerder met de dreiging van de Taliban, die ook na ruim 15 jaar oorlogsvoering nog steeds sterk zijn en grote delen van het land controleren. Afghanistan lijkt slechts te zijn gebruikt als het toneel voor spierballenvertoon. Veel commentatoren wijzen erop dat de bom gegooid werd om Noord-Korea tot de orde te roepen. Het Amerikaanse weekblad Air Force Times ziet het nog breder (zie link hieronder).
