Commentaar op het optreden van destijds is hard voor wie vochten en
hun leven waagden. Die kritiek is echter nodig om Nederland eindelijk
volwassen met haar geschiedenis om te laten gaan en niet gericht op
de militairen, maar op hen die de beslissingen namen. Die de tekenen
van de tijd niet verstonden en grepen naar militaire macht om te
verdedigen was onjuist was. Nu nog niet zien dat Indonesië zelf
bepaalde wanneer het onafhankelijk was, is alleen vanuit een
verstarde visie te begrijpen. Er waren destijds al heel wat mensen
die vonden dat Nederland onjuiste keuzes maakte.
