van deze week.
Deze week
stelde Australië mee te willen gaan doen me de grote
wapenexporteurs. Het werd het grootste wapenhandelonderwerp ind e
internationale pers van deze week. Precies een jaar geleden begon ik
deze 25tweets met de waarschuwing dat Engelstalige landen prominenter
aanwezig zijn in het overzicht dan andere landen.
Dat het
Engelstalige continent zijn grootschalige bewapeningsprogramma door
export te gelden wil maken internationaal groot nieuws werd heeft met
dat taal aspect te maken. Maar het Make Down Under great klinkt in
het huidige tijdsgewricht bekend en dat speelt zeker ook een rol.
Het
ging bij het Australische voorstel vooral om een potje in handen van
(Efic: Export Credit Agency – Australia)
van $3,8 miljard om de industrie te steunen. Volgens waarnemers is
dat het enige onderdeel en de groei is daarom op kosten van de
overheid. Bovendien is het nadeel wapenexport die vaak de
mensenrechten en veiligheid niet vergroten, maar meer onder druk
zetten of ronduit schenden of verkleinen.
Er zijn
nog drie onderwerpen die het aantal berichten over wapenhandel sterk
vergrootten (min-of-meer een verdubbeling) deze afgelopen week. De
militaire inval van Turkije in Syrië, de stop op wapenleveranties
van de VS aan Zuid-Soedan, en de ontwijking van sancties door
Noord-Korea.
In
dit overzicht maak ik zelf de F-35 belangrijk. Daarbij ook de vraag:
Als de VS de boer opgaan met dit vliegtuig, hebben de partners daar
dan wat over te zeggen. Of volgen we Trump en het Amerikaanse beleid
klakkeloos.
